ABOUT
Pertwood is made up of 2,600 organic acres, growing cereals, raising sheep and encouraging wildlife to flourish.
READ MORETucked into the south west corner of Wiltshire is our rolling organic farm that spreads across 2,600 acres. Set upon ancient chalk downland, Pertwood was purely a sheep farm until like many farms, the outbreak of WWII brought the need to plough up more land for food. Since then Pertwood has operated a classic mixed organic farming programme of grains, legumes, and grass leys grazed by sheep and beef cattle.

At Pertwood, we are passionate about caring for wildlife and our fragile environment. For more than thirty years we have been chemical-free and pledge to stay that way. Naturally, we think this is the best way to farm!
At Pertwood we are proud of our success in attracting a vast variety of species, all of whom are safe in our environment: birds, mammals, butterflies, insects, they all thrive in and on our ancient Wiltshire down lands. We employ a consulting entomologist and our research into insect life and micro-organisms is continuing as we believe that is essence of soil health. The RSPB recognise the importance of our habitat and farming methods and hold us up as an example what can be achieved, using chemical-free, sympathetic farming techniques. Corn buntings, in decline in most areas of the UK are thriving on our farm.

Lower Pertwood Farm was voted ‘Conservation Project of the Year' in the 2019 Wiltshire Life Awards. This is in recognition of the continuing work undertaken by the farm to preserve and protect wildlife and the environment - proof that farming without chemicals works!
We have been an organic farm for more than thirty years. We mainly grow oats, barley and rye and next year, we plan to grow wheat. Our yields are consistently competitive with many agri-chemical farms, plus we have the bonus of lower input costs and we are rewarded by healthier soil together with the satisfaction that we are preserving the environment for future generations.

At Lower Pertwood Farm we are well known for our long standing organic principles, our wildlife friendly farming practices and, increasingly, for the flowers we plant along the A350 for the enjoyment of the public, and to provide shelter and food for a variety of creatures.
